Climate resilience and Sustainable Forestry

CED has played an integral part in implementing Regulation on Deforestation Free Products (EUDR, previously knowns as Forest Law Enforcement and Governance), as well as improving disaster risk management in Vietnam. In both projects, CED has worked to ensure businesses are meeting their corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals. As part of this work, CED has collaborated with the UN Food and Agricultural Organization to design and deliver a project targeted at businesses to improve their understanding of legal timber trade legislation in Vietnam. Through designing a handbook, as well as producing a trailer and documentary, CED aimed to improve understanding and awareness of EUDR. To improved capacity building with disaster risk management issues, CED coordinated with our network of public, private and civil society organizations to support disaster readiness in private and education sectors by providing training to develop preparedness programs for small and medium enterprises. Both projects disseminated these resources schools, which has helped to spread awareness of disaster risk management and change attitudes of future designers when working with legal timber. As a result, CED has supported 2700 businesses and 4200 trainees in disaster risk management, and has developed self-learning online platform, workshops, handbooks, and media resources for EUDR.

To the Finish Line Viet Nam (TFL)

TFL Việt Nam (To the Finish Line Viet Nam or Về đích in Vietnamese) is an independent program under CED. TFL Việt Nam evolved from GIZ environmental programs in partnership with the apparel and footwear industry (2021–2025) and become independent in 2025. With the vision to deliver impactful sustainability and circularity programs to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam’s supply chains, TFL dedicates its focus on apparel and footwear. Its mission is to build partnerships, co-create solutions, and advance sustainability and circularity practices in Vietnam’s supply chains.

Empower Youth for Future Success in Ha Nam Province

STEM Education and Support

Working in partnership with scientific institutions, schools, and other public institutions, CED designs and delivers many programs to promote students’ interest in science, technology and innovation. CED gives students the opportunity to not only learn about science, but to also carry out scientific research and activities. We also support students to conduct their science projects and join science-based competitions at both regional and international levels.

Increasing Awareness of Plastic Management

Working with PepsiCo, CED designed a project to raise awareness of plastic waste management in Vietnam. CED leveraged networks in schools/universities, businesses, and media to develop a multifactorial approach to the issue. As a result of this project, CED engaged 264 business staff in three workshops with government agencies, as well as providing training for student (reaching 47,941 students and 100 teachers) To highlight the impact of this project, CED collaborated with our networks in traditional media to run a national advert campaign and report on our workshops in online news reports.

A video trailer of the program can be viewed here.

Promoting sustainable and eco-design for circularity

CED engages young designers in promoting sustainable and eco-design for circularity and sustainability, through initiatives such as design competitions, workshops, and mentorship programs focused on green innovation and circularity. These initiatives could encourage participants to create products, packaging, and systems that minimize waste, utilize renewable materials, and embrace circular design principles. CED work with educational institutions and design schools to provide young talent with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration needed to drive positive change. Working with eco-conscious, CED and its partners showcase their work through exhibitions, social media campaigns to amplify their impact, demonstrating how creative solutions can contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.

Healthy Lifestyles for Younger People

CED designs programs and activities to promote physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. These programs have included various focuses, such as environment stewardship, nutritional education, mental health and self-esteem workshops, and recreational sports. CED aims to utilise these projects to instil healthy habits for young people, encouraging them to make informed choices about their diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle. Additionally, these programs often emphasize the importance of mental health, providing resources and support for stress management, emotional resilience, and positive social interactions. By fostering a holistic approach to health, these initiatives help youth develop the skills and knowledge needed to lead balanced and fulfilling lives.

CED has demonstrably improved self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-reliance through our plastic waste management project and the “Confident Me” project. By recruiting 78 “Environmental Youth Leaders (EYL)” from across the country to act as ambassadors for environmental awareness and change, CED was able to work with students in a bottom-up approach to the issue of plastic waste management. CED provided training and project support for EYL to develop their own campaigns in their respective schools and universities to raise awareness on plastic waste. In addition, the “Confident Me” project was implemented to boost self-confidence and self-awareness in schools. CED worked with Unilever and Dove to implement a training program in schools. To do this, CED facilitated a training of teachers to effectively deliver the training to their students. This was seen to ensure the longevity of the project, as the teachers can provide this training year on year. For further information, please visit: https://dsep.ced.edu.vn/

Scholarships for female students

CED has partnered with over 30 companies, donors and public training institutions in Vietnam to enable over 765 female university students to study science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). By encouraging the next generation of female innovators we will see a positive impact on future sustainable growth and development in Vietnam. The scholarships are to assist in building a better future for the students while encouraging them to succeed in successful future careers.

CED provides scholarship which aims to fund the education of 3.115 disadvantaged female students, with a focus on attracting more students towards STEM and improving the quality of STEM subject teaching. In addition to funding, CED organizes activities and necessary skills training for students on the program. CED has currently supported disadvantaged girls to complete high school through these scholarships, and has also provided university scholarships.

International Relations and Exchanges

CED facilitates international exchanges on environment and development, fostering global collaboration and knowledge sharing. These exchanges involve workshops, conferences, and field visits where participants from different countries come together to discuss sustainable practices, innovative solutions, and policy frameworks. By bringing diverse perspectives and expertise to the table, these programs aim to address pressing environmental challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable development. Additionally, these events provide opportunities for networking and building partnerships, enabling NGOs to leverage resources and support from international bodies and other stakeholders. Through these exchanges, CED and its partners contribute to the global effort towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

In 2024, CED acted as a liaison between the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Construction of the Social Republic of Vietnam (MOC) as part of the Memorandum of Understanding to promote cooperation in the water supply and drainage sector between Korea and Vietnam. CED provided logistics support, administrative support, facilitation of a workshop, research and evaluation support, and communication support.
